Book by Shona McKee McNeil
Music and Lyrics by Ian Hammond Brown
“ So drink to your heart’s content – you couldn’t want for more,
Dream of an island lass who’s waiting by the shore
A toast to your health, Slainte mhath, slainte mhor
And raise your glass to him above who sent us Whisky Galore!”
Set on a remote Scottish island during the Second World War, the locals are experiencing a crisis – the Whisky has run out! However, it looks like their prayers are answered when the SS Cabinet Minister runs aground on their shore – it’s cargo – thousands of barrels of Whisky!
A hilarious tale of subterfuge ensues! This well known Scottish novel by Compton Mackenzie was made into a very successful Ealing Comedy in the 1950’s. This is the first time the Author’s Estate have granted a company the rights to turn it into a musical and Cutting Edge Theatre Productions was privileged to produce the first version in the Edinburgh Fringe 2006. The production was then picked up by Pitlochry Festival Theatre and a new production created for their 2009 Season. The show quickly sold out, breaking all Box Office Records in its’ history. Some Quotes from the Pitlochry Festival Theatre production:
"a real barnstorming success of a show... at last – a new Scottish musical to celebrate." ***** The Scotsman
“a rip-roaring popular success… completely irresistible.” The Times
“It sets the summer season off to a rousing start… full of gusto and versatility, the 14 strong ensemble deliver it with tremendous charm.” The Guardian
